Spring Shawl KAL The Centre

Updated: Feb 23, 2021

Free Knitting Pattern

Yes!!!! We are here finally the start date has arrived. I've been watching all your gorgeous yarns arriving, the photos over at yarn Jugglers are gorgeous. I cannot wait to see what you all create for this KAL.

Welcome to the start of your new Spring Shawl. I absolutely love this design and I'm hoping it will gain a special place in your heart too. We'll take it step by step as a large circular shawl can seem overwhelming at first.

If you need a refresher on how to read knitting charts you can find links out to my mini series of tutorials here.

If you are looking for yarn requirements they are in the overview post, along with links to all the released parts of this KAL.

If you are looking for the paid printer friendly PDF pattern for this shawl it is now available in the shop.

In this part we cast on and work a couple of increase rounds along with some very simple lace patterns. It's a gentle introduction to the more complex lace patterns coming up.

Abbreviations

k knit

kfb knit into front and back of the same stitch

yo yarn over

p purl

ssk slip knitwise, slip knitwise, knit 2 sts together tbl

st(s) stitch(es)

tbl through back of loop

Pattern Notes

Lace patterns used in the main sections are charted and each section has its own charts.

Remember to wrap your yarn twice around the needle when creating a YO followed by a purl stitch.

Do not forget to include the final YO before the stitch marker when following the lace patterns and working the middle round for the increase section.

If you are working the striped version all increases are in C2. If you are working in a solid or long gradient ignore the colour change instructions throughout.

That is it for the first part. You have learned the basic increase and have a good grounding in working in the round. Did you use enough stitch markers? You may need to collect a few for the next part to separate out all the lace repeats.
