Pantone Color Institute, known for influencing color trends globally, has introduced two hues as the colors of 2021.
PANTONE 17-5104 or the Ultimate Gray, and PANTONE 13-0647 or the Illuminating.
I’m so happy to see a bright yellow “Illuminating” paired with “Ultimate Grey”.
According to Pantone’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman who described Ultimate Gray as “emblematic of solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation” such as the colors of pebbles on the beach,” while Illuminating is “a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity.”
“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude,” Eiseman stated. “Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is the color combination that gives us resilience and hope.”
Will we now see a plethora of grello projects once again?
The cheery burst of colour is already brightening my outlook for 2021 compared the the dismal reality of 2020.
What projects will you be looking forward to creating in this fab colourway?
I see modern quilt designs, flared skirts with contrasting godets and striped knits and crochets galore.
Fun Facts
This is the first time an achromatic color (one lacking hue and able to be made from white and black only) has been selected.
This is only the second time multiple colours have been selected as colour of the year. The first time was in 2016 with Rose Quartz and Serenity.
