Knitting Plaid Colourwork

Stitch of the Week

I'm really feeling the plaid pattern right now, I've created some simple crochet pattern and stitch of the week info for hobbyists and designers. Now It's only right and proper to do the same for the knitters among you.

This can be knitted in either the Round, or Flat, there are instructions for both.

Designer Information

The pattern is worked over 25 stitches and 25 rows. This block is then repeated vertically and horizontally to fill the space.

You WIll Need

Colour 1 - white/background colour

Colour 2 - blue/main stripe

Colour 3 - red/highlight stripe

Abbreviations

k knit

p purl

rnd round

c1 colour 1 (white)

c2 colour 2 (blue)

c3 colour 3 (red)

st(s) stitch(es)

Knit In The Round

All rows are knit throughout, the colour changes are described on each row count. You are knitting from the right of the chart above for the first 25 sts only. The chart repeats to demonstrate the plaid effect on a larger scale. I have included the repetition instruction for your ease of use in patterns.

Cast On 27 sts in C1

Rnd 1: k2, *k1 in c3, k5 in c1, (k2 in c2, k2 in c1) four times, k5 in c1; rep from *

Rnd 2: as Rnd 1

Rnd 3: k all in c3

Knit Flat

All odd rows are knit throughout, even rows are purl.

You are knitting from the right of the chart above for the first 25 sts only. From the stitch to the right of the centre red line to the two white sts beyond the far right red line.

Stitch direction on the chart is right to left for odd rows and left to right for even rows.

The chart repeats to demonstrate the plaid effect on a larger scale. I have included the repetition instruction for your ease of use in patterns.
