Updated: Dec 15, 2020

As we spend more time closeup and personal with our immediate family and friends , via

zoom, there is ever more opportunity to spill the tea

Now you can ensure you are ready with a winter fir tea cozy topped off with a gold star. Its great for using left over yarn, or if you prefer to match the sample I made there is a mini yarn kit available in the shop.

With a short series of video tutorials for beginners linked below this is a quick and festive make for your teapot to enjoy.

The first half of the tea cosy is complete, now create a second and join together on the lower dark green scales. Leaving a gap through the mid tone green and rejoining across the top for all of the light green section. To secure on the teapot your can either add a button which fits into the centre space of the scales, or use ribbon or yarn to tie the dark scales closed beneath the handle.

Onto the Star

Once completed the star will curl up at all 5 points, to counter this we make two and join them together using a crochet slip stitch.

Chain 4 sts, join with a slst to form a ring.

Round 1: ch 3, tr 14, slst to join in top of turning chain. 15 sts

Round 2: *Slst, Ch4, dc in 2nd ch from hook, htr1, tr1, slst; rep from * to end.

5 points have now been completed and the second star can be made. Join both together with wrong sides facing with a slst around the edge of all points.

Now sew the double star to the top of your tea cosy.

Remember to share your completed cosies with #babsgetscrafty so I get to enjoy your talents too.

Stay safe and spill the tea!
